fall is just around the corner...

I pulled my lip into a line as I posted. I knew I was posting entirely to get my stalker’s attention. He’d liked my black skirt enough that I thought he might like another one.

It had been days since I’d heard from him. I was beginning to worry I never would again. And I knew that shouldn’t bother me.

I knew that.

But it did.

I was washing the dishes that evening when I saw movement outside our kitchen window. I quickly flipped the switch for our outside light. I caught a glimpse of a green hoodie running behind a tree.

I swallowed and pulled out my phone. I didn’t hesitate when deciding who to reach out to.

My eyes widened as I watched a man in a black hoodie walk deliberately to the back of the tree where I’d seen the green one disappear.

He pushed the man back and I could see both of them clearly in the light shining over my backyard.

My stalker towered over the man in the green hoodie. He titled his head to the side as he studied the man. Then, in one unnaturally fast motion, his hand raced to a holster on his belt buckle and pulled out a knife. It looked expensive. It gleamed in the light.

The man in the green hoodie turned to run but my stalker pulled him back and put the knife to his throat. I had to strain my ears a bit to hear their conversation even though the window was open.

“She’s off limits, you understand?” He growled as he held the knife still.

I frowned. The voice sounded familiar to me, but I couldn’t quite place it.

The man in the green hoodie was crying now and frantically nodding his head. My stalker let go of him and the man sprinted away into the woods.

Then he turned to me.

He stared at me as if waiting to see what my next move was.

I kept my gaze locked onto his and walked toward the back door and unlocked it.

He cocked his head to the side, silently asking me if it was an invitation.

I nodded my head. I could feel my heartbeat racing as he started walking towards the door.

I thought it was going to burst entirely when he turned the knob and stepped inside.

I swallowed as he shut the door behind him. I didn’t know when I would have this chance again. I decided to be brave.

I took a step towards him and pulled up his mask just enough to reveal his mask, and I kissed him.

Somewhere inside of me, I knew kissing him was a bad idea. But I kissed him like I was starving for him.

His lips met mine with the same hunger. He pulled his hand up to my hair and grabbed a fistful of it before lightly pulling.

My whole body ached—begged—for him to be closer.

He pulled back from me, and I couldn’t stop the whimper that left my throat.

He took a deep breath and reached and pulled the rest of his mask off.

I gasped. “Adrian,” I whispered, my eyes wide.

I furrowed my eyebrows. “But why? You hate me…”

I felt sick as it clicked into place. As my mind put the pieces together.

I took a step back and shook his head. “This must be some kind of sick joke to you. Excited to reveal to the others how I live? To get me kicked out of the group?”

He shook his head and pulled me back to him. “Your secrets are my secrets, Sienna. I have no plans on telling them anything. And I’m afraid I’m deadly serious. It’s too late now, anyway. You’re mine now.”

I opened my mouth to tell him that just because he could afford to buy anything he wanted, didn’t mean he got to buy me.

But then he smirked and the thought melted away. He leaned in to kiss me again. I didn’t stop him. I didn’t want to.

He moved his lips to my neck. “Go on, now, Sienna. Tell me you’re mine.”

“Yours,” I breathed.

He smiled wickedly. “Good, because I think I’m yours too,” he whispered in my ear.
