Studying You - Chapter Three

Stalker Romance | Short Story | Multimedia Elements

All of my work is meant for those who are 18+ and may involve dark themes.

Adrian

I stared at Sienna wondering how she was going to respond. I knew I shouldn’t but I fucking loved riling her up. With her wild, fiery red hair, she looked so pretty when she was angry.

I watched the fire come alive in her eyes just before she replied.

“You say that like borrowing is a bad thing,” she sneered at me. “Are you so rich that you have to own everything? Or are you such a jerk that none of your friends will loan you anything?”

I clicked my tongue. “Careful, Sienna.”

I took a step towards her. “I might know more than you think I do.”

I had to hold back a wicked smile as her face twisted—as she squirmed and tried to think of what to say next.

She stepped forward and pushed me. It was a pitiful push. She barely moved me.

“Resorting to violence, are we?” I said.

She narrowed her eyes at me and stomped off back to the house.

I couldn’t hold back my smile anymore as I watched her walk away. I loved getting under her skin.

The next morning…

There went the last of summer

I rarely posted on social media. But, unfortunately, to stay on top at our school, I had to post every once in a while. Social media had woven its way into culture like a snake. It was practically its own currency now.

A picture of Sienna popped up on my screen.

Had one too many glasses of wine last night...

I couldn’t help but smirk. Maybe social media had its perks after all. I didn’t bother liking it though. That was much too straight-forward for me.

I was convinced even if I pushed Sienna against a wall and kissed her that she wouldn’t think I meant it.

Not unless I could get through to her first.

That was what the anonymous texting was about—and the stalking. How was I supposed to win her over if I didn’t know as much as I could about her?

I sighed. Fine. A small part of me had also wanted to punish her, to scare her too.

Following her is how I found out all about her well-crafted lie.

She wasn’t one of us at all.

And somehow knowing that just made me like her more—just made me want her more.

One day I hoped she felt safe enough to tell me all of her secrets.

I groaned as I rolled out of my silk sheets. I dragged my feet across the floor and down the three flights of stairs to the kitchen. Neither of my parents would be home for weeks. My father was on some kind of business trip and my mom had gone with a friend to Europe.

It didn’t really change my life much when they were out of town. My parents did a good job of avoiding me even when they were there. That was fine with me. I preferred silence over my father’s disappointment and lectures when he did decide to pay me any attention.

I poured myself a cup of coffee and went back upstairs to get ready for school. I may be a ghost in this house but I was an undeniable presence there.
